Cyprus - where does this name come from?

It would seem that from cypresses - beautiful trees, the diversity of which is a characteristic of the island.

Nothing could be further from the truth, although it would be a grateful explanation, because in Latin this tree is cyprinun.

“The origin of the name "Cyprus" is unknown, but the island's extensive mining of metallic copper in ancient times gave rise to the Latin word "cuprum" meaning copper.

Look at the Cyprus flag:

“It is a white rectangle, in the center of which there are: a figure resembling the shape of the island of Cyprus and two green olive branches. The white color and green olive branches are a symbol of peace between the two communities of the island: Greeks and Turks. The golden color of the island refers to the color of copper.”

Sacred buildings, surrounded by cypress trees and the blue sky in the background, look beautiful.
