Description of the play

The action of the play takes place in a fictional country, although it could be any country – in Europe or South America… After a dozen or so years of fascist dictatorship, the regime falls and democracy is slowly being reborn. Gerard (played by Kamil Maćkowiak), a former oppositionist, is a lawyer and the face of the newly formed government. His wife Paulina (Jowita Budnik) herself became a victim of violence and brutal experiments during internment a dozen or so years earlier. She has not been able to recover from the psychological trauma to this day. The action of the play takes place during one night. Gerard returns home, Paulina is waiting for him with dinner. It is raining, the electricity has been cut off in the house in the middle of nowhere where they live, everything heralds approaching danger.

And then a guest (Mariusz Słupiński) knocks on Paulina and Gerard's door...

Author: Ariel Dorfman

Director: Waldemar Zawodziński

For 90 minutes during the performance and many hours after it, the audience is left wondering where the thin line is between truth, lies, cruelty inflicted on a person, the need for revenge, and to what extent the thought of one's own political career allows for the manipulation of facts...

Three actors, in outstanding roles, tried to additionally sow in us further moral doubts.

Well, nothing is clear-cut, and facts can be bent.

And not only in the imaginary country of this play.

Jowita Budnik once again delighted with her acting skills and the truth she conveyed about the consequences suffered by the victim of political persecution and cruel torture.
