Chania without sunshine

The weather is not yet favourable enough for enjoying the beach, so we take local transport from our village Kolimbari to the capital of the region with an unusual name – Chania.

"Chania (Greek: Χανιά, Turkish: Hanya, Italian: Canea) – on the north-western coast of Crete (...) In 2011, it had 53,910 inhabitants (the second largest city on the island).

The city was founded by the Venetians on the site of the ancient Minoan settlement of Kydonia, which existed here since around 3400 BC. Today, Chania is famous for its attractive coastal port district and characteristic buildings from the Venetian era."

So we visit what is available – the beautiful coast and the Venetian Harbour.

Let the photos introduce you to this city. A sunless day shows other faces of the lace usually shown in the sunshine.

The first of May is not the best day to visit any tourist city – only restaurants and souvenir shops are open.
