Mozart in Szczecin?

Every ambitious opera house in the world hasWolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "The Magic Flute" in its repertoire.

The Opera at the Castle has just earned its reputation as a very good theater, and by staging this opera in 2025, it confirmed that it is among the best companies in the country.

We watched the performance with great satisfaction, listened to the excellent soloists, and admired the exquisite set design.

Here is a summary of the libretto in the program, prepared by the director of this production, Ms. Natalia Babińska.

"(...) there was the sorcerer Sarastro, called the ruler of the secret temple of wisdom. No one could threaten him, much less defeat him, because the sorcerer possessed the Sevenfold Solar Circle, a talisman of unlimited power. One day, Sarastro decides to kidnap the beautiful daughter of a powerful sorceress, the Queen of the Night. The distraught mother calls upon the aid of a young prince named Tamino to face the dark forces of the temple. Tamino goes to war armed only with his magic flute, his youth and beauty, and above all – his love for Princess Pamina. It is love that makes (...)” and so on."

A beautiful, artistic evening  at the Opera at the Castle in Szczecin.

But that's not the fairy tale that matters here. Mozart's music kept us captivated for almost three hours by the songs of lovers, the spells of sorcerers, and the threats of the Queen of the Night.
