Cool airport
The second leg of our Asian journey has come to an end.
We're returning to Thailand. From the new airport in Phnom Penh, a truly beautiful and impressive project.
"Techo International" stands for Techo International Airport in Cambodia, which is the new main airport serving the capital, Phnom Penh, and will replace the previous airport (PNH) in September 2025. The name "Techo" refers to the historical title awarded to military commanders by the King of Cambodia, emphasizing strength and national pride. Literally, it means "mighty warrior" or "strong leader."
The new airport focuses not only on modernity, increased capacity, and the ability to accommodate larger aircraft, but also on ecology and sustainability. It is a Class 4F facility, meaning it has a long runway suitable for the world's largest passenger and cargo aircraft.
The complex includes 22 gates, a central garden, duty-free shops, pharmacies, and numerous restaurants. The airport also features a solar farm – a British architectural firm has designed the terminals to maximize natural light. Rainwater harvesting and waste reduction are also planned. (...)
Through the eyes of passengers delighted with the architectural details:
