12.c. Life around Angkor

Today three entries.

c.

Monday early afternoon.

Well fed we got on  "board" of our tuk-tuk and we drove many kilometers through the villages around Angkor, where normal life goes on. Of course, it is the life in the shadow of the temples and dependent on tourists.

We've tried to show the normality.

In case you still have some time you may wish to experience a massage from "Seeing Hands", which trains and employs blind masseus. Many of these are farmers who became blind from flying shrapnel after having accidentally detonated an anti-personel mine while tending fields. These mines are deadly relics from the war between Cambodia and Vietnam. The disabled farmers leave their villages to avoid being a burden to their families and head to the big cites, looking for work. There, they learn the art of massage and gain theirs livelyhood as well as their dignity.
