To Morocco

From Barcelona we are flying to Casablanca budget line - Vueling. We are now travelling in a group of four, besides  us -  Gaby and Ani – two Argentinians.

A combination of local and long distance trains let us arrive in Marrakech at 01:00 am. Not everything went so smoothly, because credit cards at the stations are not accepted, and money exchange or cash points are nonexistent. The nearby hotel helped and we reached the platform fearing that we might miss the last evening train on this route ...

We didn’t miss it, because it was 40 minutes late. The first class compartment was comfortable (the second class was full and had no assigned places) and additionally  we got a lot of information from a co-passenger - a young inhabitant of Marrakesh.

Tired and little hungry we arrived at the booked riad.

A riad is a traditional Moroccan house or palace with an interior garden. The word riad comes from the Arabic term for the garden, " ryad."

The construction of the riads, without external windows,  provides the necessary privacy in Morocco, and above all, keeps the house cool on hot days. In the inner gardens  there grow citrus trees and should be a fountain.

At this time of year, the nights are cool and the days not too hot.

"Our" riad is a small house inside the old city walls, with 5 rooms. We rented the whole house, because finally we are going to be 10 of us.

A hot dinner (?) was waiting for us. And eventually sleeping!
