Bagan's vicinities

Once again, with enthusiasm, Małgosia and Jacek are describing their impressions of the extraordinary trip to Myanmar:

The fourteenth day. We set out from Mandalay to Bagan. Breakfast at 6:00 am and immediate transfer to the airport. At the airport, a  surprise: the  flight was announced delayed by 3 hours (fog in Yangon did not let our aircraft to leave the airport there). We are enjoying exciting hours in the airport cafe. On the wall there hangs a photo of the Eiffel Tower – the European climates, though.

We landed in Bagan early in the afternoon. In a place where there remained about 4000 stupas in a good condition, out of several thousands which had been put up here.

The boss (the other Jacek) does not give up - straight from the airport – off for the sightseeing. We are watching a stupa - the most important one in the area. The guide gives us a lecture on the structure and meaning of individual elements of Buddhist temples and Buddha images.

It turns out that the creation of Buddha images changed over the centuries.

Tired of the heat (38 C in dry air) we are arriving to the hotel. Here, full of luxury (4 stars +), beautiful rooms, a swimming pool, professional illumination. A recommendable place.

Our moods run high; we are relaxing ...

Another day. In the morning, after breakfast which can satisfy  all tastes, we are going to a city of Sale. We are visiting a wooden monastery: Yoke Sone Kyaung (so it is difficult for you as well!)

Stone dragons at the entrance present open mouths, which means that this is the way in. At the back of the building the  statues have the mouths closed. Who can guess why?

We were surprised with the way of presentation of scenes from the life of Buddha - on wooden reliefs (see the photos!).

In the next pagoda, another surprise: the Buddha is "empty" inside. The figure frame was made of bamboo wood, covered with lacquer, then plated with gold !!!

Next, off to the Mount Popa. Who was in Greece, can find counterparts in Meteora.

We are climbing the 840 stairs in the company of monkeys, to reach the summit whose appearance does not compensate for the effort. Full commercialization.

These stairs climbed barefoot (!) proved to be a real challenge for the feet. Now we can easily conquer the world barefoot.

Hungry, we  reached a village where lunch was prepared for us (the idea of our Burmese guide's). A local buffet was served under a huge palm shed.

After lunch a surprise: foot massage (for a fee). All the ladies had fun. Replete, massaged, relaxed, happy, we are watching production of local goodies from palm juice.

First, sweet palm oil

First, the sweet palm oil is pressed. Jacek is personally supporting this production step. Then,  we can see how the juice is collected from palm trees. Eventually, the fermentation and distillation  ...

We couldn’t miss tasting of the final product.

Blurred pictures and text errors result from the excess tasting ...
