Sultan Qaboos Mosque (Grand Mosque)

Sultan Qaboos Mosque is the largest temple in Oman.

The construction began in 1995 at the behest of Sultan Qaboos. It lasted six years; the solemn dedication of the mosque took place at the thirtieth anniversary of the rule of the ruler. Fit there may as many as 20 thousand people, including 6.5 thousand in the men's prayer hall. The entire structure covers an area of ​​40 thousand m2. In the four corners rise minarets 45 meters high, which together with the fifth highest - 91.5 m - symbolize the five pillars of Islam.

The walls of the mosque are decorated with floral patterns, geometric figures and verses from the Koran, which appears more and more closer to the main prayer hall. This huge room can surprise us its splendor. The floor is covered with a Persian rug, created by 600 women over four years. Hall is illuminated by 35 chandeliers decorated with Swarovski crystals. The largest of them (14x8m) was suspended in the central dome, the burden rests on four pillars.

Mihrab (niche in the outgoing direction of Mecca) deeply cut into the wall (toilet) and is richly decorated.
