A day off

Finally, a day came that we could do nothing important at home and leave the city.

Yesterday morning, the weather promised to be great and there was no rain in sight.

We went to Kep. We know the road from previous stays there and we wanted to deep our feet in the cold ocean at the end of the rainy season.

And there was the first surprise. The water temperaure was 30°C !! It seemed to us warmer than at the beginning of this year (January is the middle of the dry season).

Kep has only one public beach and it has no opinion of a paradise place. But this beach has its advantages thanks to simple rules and principles: it is not allowed to bring any furniture (chairs, tables, parasols or even large straw mats, etc.). It is allowed to lie on towels. It is strictly forbidden to litter!

Cambodians come here on all days off and spread out on rented mats and chairs along the beach on the sidewalk, in the shade of the trees.

And this is their favourite way of spending time with family (less often with friends).

They eat and talk. They eat a lot, some people drink beer. They talk quite loud.

Few of them use the charms of bathing in the bay. And if they do, they do it in full uniforms: the boys in shirts and shorts; the girls also bathe in dresses other than those we call bathing suits.

On the beach we witnessed a wedding photo session.

And on the way back we remembered that there are many Muslims living in the Kampot area and there are many local mosques here.

We do not know when we will have a day off next time...v
