Yucatan, Capmpeche - a town full of charm

This time we are in Campeche right on the Mexican Gulf.

Campeche is a wonderful city (population of 300 000 but it the impression of a much smaller place); within its walls lie sleepy (no longer) cobbled streets lined with the brightly colored houses that are so typical of Mexico. Tourism hasn't yet stamped its mark

on the city and it's a great place to explore and sample some of the real Mexico that gringos don't usually get to see.

Down by the water's edge the fishermen still take their boats out at dawn and return with the day's catch, while in the main square locals gather to meet and exchange all the latest gossip.

We are going to spend here merely 24 hours but we are enjoying the air of "real" Mexico.
