In Kamień Pomorski

The weather did not change in the afternoon, so we decided to drive  to Kamień Pomorski (15 km from Dziwnów) to walk around the beautiful marina, watch the changes in the city and eat good fish at the famous Zubowicz’s.

In more than 10 years of running this blog, there were only two episodes when an interesting trip was deprived of our photographic documentation.

For the first time in Fiji, when I was in a hurry to publish my report on the blog and at the same time I was satisfying my nagging hunger and with a bun, I bit the camera's memory card, destroying it completely.

And today, after returning to Dziwnów, I noticed that no photo from Kamień Pomorski had been registered on the camera card. The cause cannot be determined.

So,  it will only be about Kamień Pomorski itself and the legend associated with the name of the city.

Kamień Pomorski (German: Cammin in Pommern) - a town in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the Kamień Pomorski poviat, the seat of the commune of Kamień Pomorski. The health resort is located on the Szczecinskie Coast, on the shores of the Kamieński Lagoon. There is a seaport here with a fishing and sailing swimming pool. "

Now about the famous stone:

The Royal Stone - a symbolic place of Kamień Pomorski

A huge boulder, 3.5 m high above the water, 4 m wide and 20 m in circumference, emerges from the waters of the lagoon near Chrząszczewska Island and Kamień Pomorski. It used to be three times bigger, but unfortunately it was trimmed and used for building material.

The Royal Stone, also known as the Royal Stone, is a gray-pink granite erratic boulder brought many thousands of years ago by the ice sheet moving from Scandinavia. The composition is dominated by ash quartz and pink feldspars. Hence its characteristic color. To see it, you need to go from Kamień Pomorski on a short, 8-km trip to the north of Chrząszczewska Island. The gigantic stone lies near the village of Buniewice, in the waters of the sea, close to the shore covered with reeds. It has the status of a monument of inanimate nature. "

And now what the legend says:

“Among the ancient Pomeranian forests, there once lived a lonely giant, long and persistent looking for tribesmen. When he sat down on a huge boulder, weary and resigned, the devil appeared, transformed into the form of a pretty giantess. The loner's joy was immense, but also short-lived. The alleged giantess urging him to write a pact revealed herself quickly. The enraged loner grabbed the boulder on which he was sitting with both hands and aimed at the devil. He ran away. The stone flew in its wake, but the devil jumped to the side, and the boulder flew on and fell to the shallow bottom of the pool, connecting the waters of the bay with the Dziwna Strait. The folk klechda proclaims that the settlement took its name from this huge lump of granite, which soon grew into a significant stronghold, and then turned into a rich city. "
