A more Greek evening

It's time to devote a few words to the place where we are.

Hersonissos is a typical tourist destination like many in Crete, 26 km east of the island's capital - Heraklion.

The city focuses on one main street running along the coast, and an additional attraction is the promenade running parallel to it, at the very sea line. Walking from one end to the other is a few kilometers - an hour's walk.

Since there is a shop after a shop, a hotel after a hotel, and there are practically no family houses, you can see that it is a typical tourist creation focused on mass tourism.

We want to get to the old part of the city, but it requires a lot of physical condition to do an hour uphill walk.

We decide to rent a motorbike ...

A fifteen minutes' ride and we are in the mountains (not very high, though) and in Old Hersonissos. Here we saw the atmosphere of a Greek (Cretan) town with many colorful tavernas and bars. It's all styled for tourists but looking authentic.

Prices are a little higher here than down there. A higher tax for the hights?

At the end of the day - a ride down to the port, where, apart from the picturesque night views of the area, there is a famous promenade that could be transferred to any tourist city in the world, and no one would guess the name or nationality. Only the menu in hundreds of restaurants proves that we are in Crete!
