GRAND ANNIVERSARY GALA
On the last evening in Silesia we participate in:
THE GRAND ANNIVERSARY GALA
on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Silesian Philharmonic.
Performers (approx. 1,000 people!):
- 8 vocal soloists
- 1 pianist
- 2 conductors
- 8 choirs operating in Katowice
- 13 children's choirs from Katowice music schools:
- Silesian Chamber Orchestra
- Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra
Programme:
- Kilar industrially
- Gustav Mahler – Symphony No. 8 in E flat major Symphony of a Thousand
"(…) works by Wojciech Kilar enriched with industrial sounds and multimedia shows. We will hear the most famous film themes, including from Pan Tadeusz, Ziemia obiecana, Trędowata, Smuga cienia, as well as from Salt of the Black Earth. The energetic Orava will also be heard, inspired by folk music – highlander rhythms and Podhale dances.
Wojciech Kilar's Piano Concerto No. 2 will be performed by the excellent pianist Piotr Sałajczyk, of course accompanied by the Silesian Chamber Orchestra. (…) The concert will be complemented by Adam Wesołowski's Sinfonia industrialna – a piece composed for the 150th anniversary of Chorzów, in which the natural sounds of instruments are combined with the sounds of industrial machines.
The evening's culmination will be a concert by the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yaroslav Shemet, which, together with the Silesian Philharmonic Choir and combined choirs from the Silesian Voivodeship, will perform Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 8 in E flat major. This work will be performed by 1,000 artists for the first time in Poland!"
Tonight's concert will be recorded in the history of symphonic performances in Poland! The concert was attended by over 7,000 listeners and spectators.
The concert took place in Katowice's Spodek.
For us, it was a musical experience worth every effort necessary to cover the route from Szczecina to Katowice.
Kilar and Malher - they will remain forever in our hearts and in our musical sensitivity.
