Farewell to the show at the Contemporary Theatre
In 2019, our Contemporary Theatre produced the play "Being Like Beata." It was a success in Szczecin and on several other stages in Poland.
Unfortunately, all plays have a lifespan and eventually have to leave the stage.
Today was the final performance of this production.
And with Beata Kozidrak herself in the audience!
What is this play about? About fulfilling dreams!
Everyone can try to be like Beata. Everyone can try to leave their humdrum life behind and shine. It doesn't matter that it may sometimes be pathetic, kitschy, or even inappropriate. What matters is what's in our hearts!
Reviews:
"A musical performance unlike any other. A performance that moved and brought tears to our eyes, even from Beata Kozidrak herself. The audience was delighted with the arrangements of BAJM hits and the hilarious acting, which gives them new, often surprising meaning."
"This is both a tribute to the blonde who brought color to the sad life of the Polish People's Republic, and to us: Poles from all walks of life. People who would like to break free from the grayness and become the chosen ones. Regardless of the shame and embarrassment. (...)
"The Queen of Polish song, as we know, is only one, and she has been singing about Małgośka for almost half a century. So who is Beata Kozidrak, who sang about Józek? The Empress of Polish song? An icon? A goddess?
Many stage and film musicals have been based on songs by famous artists: the Beatles, Abba, Queen, Czerwone Gitary. The catch, so to speak, lies in the nuance: "Being Like Beata" is, yes, a musical composed of Bajm (and Beata) hits, but it's not about a pretextual plot, but about giving a voice to ordinary, average Poles who, as we've already agreed, love Polish music en masse." Bajm (and Beata) and using the words of their beloved songs they want to express their own emotions, previously hidden under the mirror of the lake of dreams.
As promised, Beata Kozidrak was there as an audience member for this final performance!
At the end of the performance, she was greeted with a long ovation, and along with all the performers and producers, already on stage, she saw how much the Polish audience loved her.
The five actors, most of whom I know from other performances, played their roles brilliantly, both spoken and vocal.
Piotr Domalewski was the creator and co-writer of this performance. He deserves special recognition for creating a truly Polish musical!
PS. Piotr Domalewski directed the film "Mnistranci," (Altar boys) which won the Golden Lions award at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia just two days ago.
