Egypt in Szczecin?

Here in Szczecin, we are happy that events occasionally take place here that show Poles that our city is not at the edge of Poland, but at its BEGINNING!

The recently reported naming of the m/f Jantar Unity proves that the Szczecin-Świnoujście port complex is a window and gateway to the world!

But what does all this have to do with the ancient world we now want to see in Egypt, specifically in the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo?

How can Egyptian archaeology be connected to Szczecin?

  1. The National Museum in Szczecin has:
  • individual artifacts from Egypt (e.g., amulets, small monuments),
  • exhibitions on ancient civilizations that can be compared to Egypt,
  • rich archaeological collections from other cultures, allowing for the creation of comparative narratives.
  •
  1. The Port of Szczecin and Ancient Trade

Szczecin is a port city, and Egypt was a trading power of antiquity.

  • What would trade routes have looked like if the Egyptians had access to the Baltic Sea?
  • "From the Nile to the Oder — this is how civilizations are built."
  1. Egypt in Szczecin's culture

The city features:

  • Educational events: "Egypt in Szczecin — clues, inspirations, events."
  1. Architecture and Symbolism

Although Szczecin doesn't have pyramids, many references to ancient culture and art can be found here:

  • Buildings with neoclassical elements that evoke antiquity,
  • Solar, columnar, and monumental motifs — comparable to those in Egypt?
  1. Finally – from Szczecin to Cairo
  • Szczecin branches of travel agencies offer a few-day trips to the Egyptian capital, called "city breaks".

And it was precisely for such a four-day trip that we signed up at the ITAKA office to confirm firsthand what I megalomaniacaly described above!

The "archaeological" expedition starts tomorrow!
