Time for Madagascar

Our usual travel destination – Southeast Asia – has been temporarily put on hold.

Luckily, we had already decided to go to another part of the world, which turned out to be a good choice.

MADAGASCAR. Or rather, Nosy Be – an island at the northern tip of the country.

Madagascar – that means lemurs and baobabs, turtles, right?

For me, it's also Arkady Fiedler because his books were part of my childhood reading and my dreams of far-flung travels.

"Arkady Fiedler visited Madagascar in 1937 as part of a government mission investigating the possibility of Polish colonization, which resulted in the books "Madagascar: The Hot Village of Ambinanitelo" and "Madagascar: The Cruel Wizard." Fiedler described nature, culture, and the daily lives of the inhabitants, rather than focusing on political goals."

Poland and the colonization of the world? Were these our imperialist plans? And yet...

"In the 1930s, the Second Polish Republic considered Madagascar as a potential colony to address the problems of rural overpopulation and Jewish emigration. In 1937, a special delegation was sent (...), and the project was supported by the Maritime and Colonial League. These plans, despite Arkady Fiedler's involvement and visit, were thwarted by the outbreak of World War II."

And one more name is associated with this island: Maurycy Beniowski.

"Maurycy Beniowski (1746–1786) was a figure with a complex identity, best described as a Hungarian-Slovak nobleman who consciously chose Polishness and felt Polish."

Adventure in Madagascar awaits us!

Ola, the author of the blog "Countries of the World," begins her posts about Madagascar this way:

"Who hasn't dreamed of being transported to paradise, even for a moment? The island of Nosy Be, located at the end of the world, offers unforgettable views, sandy beaches surrounded by crystal-clear water, all nestled amidst extraordinary natural beauty. The name simply means "big island," and along with the other "noses," it belongs to the northern Madagascar archipelago. So what? Ready for a handful of practical information straight from King Julien's kingdom?

Madagascar is one of the few places on earth where you can escape the modern world, relax amidst unspoiled nature, far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It's a magical place, both in terms of nature and culture. (...)"

I hope we can confirm these delights and add to them with our own experiences.
