At Renata's hospitable home in Rockville near Washington DC

It's time I introduced our friend Renata who is one more successful Polish woman outside our country, who we met during our trip.

It's almost a shame to admit how long we have been friends. As in a Polish saying: "even the oldest mountain people wouldn't remember that".

We lived in the same neighbourhood in Szczecin as children; even though we went to two defferent primary schools, we shared the same schoolyard. It only

caused problems like fighting with snowballs or other actions which needed intervention of the adults. We didn't know each other personally and we didn't

love each other coming from rival schools. I don't remember whether we fought with each other but we somehow must have liked each other.

We met again in the secondary school and we have been friends ever since for better or for worse.

Renata graduated from a medical school in Szczecin and at some historical moment she was forced to leave the country together with her parents.

In the USA she became a pathologist and to her own surprise she joint the military. She was an army doctor for 30 years and she was the fist foreign woman who at the rank of a colonel reached the position of the director of the Institute of Pathology of the Armed Forces of the USA.

Today she is still active professsionally working on diffrent projects for the army, concerning cancer diseases.

As far as I am concerned, I've been seeing Renata over the years at different places of her stay in the USA: New York, San Antonio, Texas, and now in Rockville, Maryland.
