Corcovado - Hunchbacked Mountain

At the top of Corcovado is the famous statue of Cristo Redendor - Christ the Redeemer. The granite Art Deco statue is 30 meters high (the one in Peru, in Lima - 37m, including 15m pedestal, in Poland, in Swiebodzin - 36 m, including 3 m crown) and dominates the entire city overlooking it and the Sugarloaf. The latter lost its symbolic meaning which was from 1912 to 1931 when the sculpture was installed on Corcovado.

Acable car takes us up to the top. The journey lasts about half an hour and now we can enjoy the beautiful view of Rio, the bay and the surrounding hills.

The postcards which we all know show those views in beautiful sunshine but we had a grey day, and maybe thanks to that thus our pictures, though not beautiful, are original and very interesting too.
