Santa Teresa Hill

Remember the Lapa viaduct which was built in 1800s? In those times it used to supply Rio in the water. Now it is used as a viaduct for a scenic tram called Bondinho. Actually it was used because it is being under renovation for a long time. The tram was to connect the city centre with the charming neighbourhood of Santa Teresa.

First, in history, the slaves fled to the hill to take refuge in the local caves, then the residents of Rio fled there before the cholera epidemic, and finally the rich cariocas, at the end of the nineteenth century, fled from the bustle of the city. In the end, the hill got dominated by many intellectuals and artists.

The charming tram no longer runs, because there is no money for repairs, and the minibuses that replaced the tram do not add much charm to the neighbourhood.

It was there that an unpleasant accident happened to us. Two thieves on a scooter tried to snatch a camera from Adrian, but he bravely defended it, as it was double strapped around his arm. Adek ended up falling down and getting small bruises.

We both got a lesson.
