Times Square

Times Square - the crossroads of the world, is located at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue. It is for  New York City what the Red Square is for  Moscow, the Champs Elysees for Paris, Trafalgar Square for London, Marszalkowska street for Warsaw and Brama Portowa for  Szczecin. (ha, ha).

It is one of the icons of the city known to the whole world.

The name comes from the The New York Times building located there..

Every New Year's Eve a ceremony welcoming the New Year is  organized in Times Square, which involves approx. 1 million New Yorkers, tourists from other states in the USA and from all over the world. The ceremony with the participation of the biggest music stars is transmitted to approx. 1 billion viewers.

This year, we met with a lot of disappointment – the square is subject to a three-year revitalization project. Unfortunately now, this is not a place which can provide you with any fun. A monstrous noise of construction machinery working round the clock, crowds of people, a permanent traffic jam  and areas of the square tottaly dug up, made us  ran out of there as fast as I could. And we could do it with difficulty, because about 11 pm  when we found ourselves there, we got seized by a crowd of people who came from the surrounding theatres and traditionally "popped up" in Times Square.

We also popped up there to say goodbye to New York, probably for the next two years.

See you there soon!
