The Quirinale

One of the seven hills of Rome – The Quirinale is the place where since the sixteenth century there has been the Palazzo del Quirinale. It was the first papal palace, and at the end of their reign  it became the residence of the kings of Italy. Since 1947 it has been the seat of the President of the Italian Republic.

The Presidential Palace can be visited only on Sundays and the visiting requires no formalities  - just waiting  in the queue.

It is not allowed to take pictures in the palace.

The Square itself is impressive with huge statues of the twins Castor and Pollux – the patrons of horse-riders.

Waiting for the entrance we could watch not a very impressive changing of the guard and wondered why in Italy everyone could tour the house and nothing bad would happen, and in Poland??? ???....
