Playa del Ingles

Playa del Inglés does not have a typical centrer; trade, services and restaurants are located in shopping malls (CC = Centro Comercial).

A characteristic feature of most C.C. is their construction - the lower levels 2-3 are buried in the ground.

Due to the mass audience, their offers are all similar and marketed products are typical of countries from which the majority of tourists come. Nevertheless, as a duty-free zone (that is the whole of Gran Canaria) the island attracts special attention with a number of large-format stores with perfume.

Since the beginning of the 70s Playa del Inglés has been the world's largest centre for gay tourism. Most travel agencies address their offers to people of homosexual orientation placing their offer in Playa del Inglés. This segment of tourists is attracted to the local sand dunes, vast naturist beach and numerous clubs and bars for gays (number one being CC Yumbo).

 Nothing more, nothing less.

Besides the fact that in the 70s of the twentieth century Playa del Inglés must have looked, as far as those times are concerned, modern and elegant. Unfortunately, today the outdated architecture and neglected  beauty of the city, does not raise delight. And the economic crisis in Spain can be seen everywhere.
