Yangon - the temples

Today, on Saturday, Eva and Magda are describing their experience of two consecutive days:

Last night we saw the most beautiful pagoda in Myanmar and maybe even the entire Buddhist world - the Shewgadon. The Golden pagoda towers were visible from the windows of our landing airplain.

How much gold, how many diamonds, colors, details, elemnts, shapes, and decorations in the pagoda! They all take your breath away!!!

The temple occupies a vast area which dominates the Yangon and is a place of pilgrimage for the whole of Myanmar.

We got on the day of national holiday - the anniversary of the liberation of the country from the British rule. We circled the large grounds toegether with a colorful crowd of rapt pilgrims gathered and bewildered tourists.

Previously, however, we went to see the reclyning Buddha whose size and anatomical details (eyelashes, lips, fingernails and feet of a tremendous size) made a great impression on us.

Today, we could not miss a visit to still another temple. After climbing steaming hot marble scales, we go to the golden pagoda in which the central place occupied Buddha's tooth - a relic which attracts pilgrims from all over the world. It is a pity that it is placed in a glass casket, which had less powerful influence on us - the public.

On the subject of teeth ... We were shown white elephant whose rare skin color was believed to ensure happiness in the wars of their masters. These animals, however, whose color did not bring happiness: shackled in chains, without fangs, are exposed to a public view,  derogatory to their dignity.
