Angkor, Ta Prohm

Our pictures from the temple of Ta Prohm show two things: - the beauty of Khmer architecture and unrelenting aggression of nature in appropriating everything that it previously had been ripped out!

Once again we see this extraordinary phenomenon, and once again the delight is not disturbed even by the hordes of Chinese tourists with their unbearable behaviour.  Due to political correctness (sic!) I refrain from description of our annoyance at this situation.

Below is the citation  from  the Wikipedia:

"Ta Prohm is the modern name of one of the temples in the Angkor complex. It was founded by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist temple and the University. Since 1992 it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Unlike most stone buildings complex of Angkor, Ta Prohm preserved in a state similar to that in which it was found. The picturesque combination of the roots of trees growing on the ruins of the temple in the middle of the jungle makes Ta Prohm is one of the most visited attractions in the whole complex of Angkor.

The inscription on the newfound Ta Prohm stele says that in the past was inhabited here 18 chief priests, 2,740 priests celebrating more than 2,002 assistants and 61 celestial dancers. In a closed vault of the temple was stored 5 tons of silver, 35 diamonds, 45,000 pearls and 4500 precious stones.

The ruins of the temple complex were used in 2001 as a backdrop to the action movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. "

Zapierające dech w piersiach zdjęcia, szczególnie te obrazujące, jak przyroda zawłaszcza przeszłość.
