A ghost quarter in the city of Al Hamra

After more than a five-hour "running" in the mountains, it's time for a meal. In the city of Al Hambra we are looking for a  restaurant and decide to go "Hindu".

A big choice is not there, and for us vegetarians can only eat fish. This is not a country for meat-free people, but there's always something which can be found. Raw vegetables and soup of the day well satisfy our appetites.

Local grocery market provides us with products for dinner in our tents.

Unfortunately, no beers or so!

We visit the town and find a complete phenomenon in modern Oman: a ghost town surrounded by a new city. The people better living places leaving their homes probably built several hundred years ago.

This part of town was built on a sloping hillside and is a complex of the oldest houses in Oman. Many houses have two, three or even four floors, ceilings made of palm beams. The walls of the houses are built of mud and straw.

We are watching all this with some sadness that nobody wants to live here any longer or preserve  this monument of architecture dating back centuries.
