A day in Phnom Penh
I am enjoying a day on my own in Phnom Penh shopping, but not for my needs, but only on orders of the others. I will have time to think about myself later on.
The tireless Mr Vanna drives me around the city in search of a Hindu box - a stand and storage for incense sandalwood sticks.
Unfortunately, the original, beautifully carved in the wood, exceeds the budget of the ordering party (65 USD). But it was worth watching.
A separate phenomenon in Phnom Penh is the so-called "Russian Market", because in the 1960s and 70s the Russians massively traded here, as they could come without restrictions - without visas.
Here you can really buy just anything. And for those who like bargaining - it's a paradise on earth.
I talked with local artists who make pictures curved in leather or pressed with a special technique in rice paper.
Very talented people and they can speak English too!
In order not to talk just about shopping, I want to start with a few photos from the riverside boulevard on the Tonle Sap river which just here flows into the Mekong.
Postcolonial architecture attracts the eye ...
For myself, I bought a Khmer textbook for beginners and an appropriate dictionary.
