Treating the sprained ankle

In Senmonorom we went to a local doctor for examination of the leg. He took an X-ray and found it was just an ankle sprain and no fractures or cracks. Calmed down a little bit, we went on a further route - to Takeo.

Since yesterday we have been in Kampot and Kep - by the ocean.

A few days after the jungle event, Gabrysia felt a very strong leg pain that swelled mercilessly.

We took her to the hospital in Kampot – 45 km away from Kep.

Hospital SONJA KILL MEMORIAL HOSPITAL surprised us with its modern appearance and interesting aesthetics.

Unfortunately, Sunday is not a good day for a hospital visit. Few doctors, a lot of patients including many white tourists, made the examination and the final effect after 8 hours !!

And the result is a gypsum rail which in a few days will be replaced with a "normal" cast above the knee!

It turned out, however, that the ankle was broken in the left leg.

Now my job is to arrange transport to Poland, in a way that allows Gabrysia to keep her leg leveled. We will see how the insurer reacts. They ares informed about the incident on an ongoing basis.

We are waiting for a decision.

5 days remain until the end of the planned trip.

Now a few words about the hospital itself.

In 1993, a young German Sonja Kill went on trekking around Kampot. She suffered an accident and in the absence of medical help - she died. She was 21 years old.

„Dr. Winfried and Mrs. Rosemarie Kill’s dream was to honor the memory of their daughter Sonja, who had been taken from them too soon in an accident. In doing so, they founded the Sonja Kill Foundation with the intent to help the Cambodian people receive quality health care.

Due to the high mortality rate of children in southern Cambodia, the Kill family's vision was for the hospital to focus on the health of children. With this vision in mind, the Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital was built in the southern province of Kampot.

Members of the Kill family visit the hospital regularly to see their dream become a reality.”

The hospital opened in April 2012.
