On Holy Saturday we set off to Gorzów, driving on almost empty S3. From Legnica, the driving gave us pleasure  because with small car traffic we could admire the landscapes drowned in spring greenery.

Entering the city from the south, you noticed the lack of a known silhouette of the cathedral, because its renovation requires the complete covering of the building with scaffolding...

Gorzów has its own Notre Dame: the Cathedral of the Assumption. It is the oldest temple in the city, erected at the end of the 13th century on the plan of a three-nave, a pseudo-basilica body with a tower at the west elevation and a sacristy in the shape of a rectangle, at the north elevation, as a municipal parish church. (...)

Gorzów has its own tragedy: on 1 July 2017 a fire broke out in the cathedral tower. The spire and helmet were temporarily removed. As a result of the fire, the temple has been closed to the faithful for the duration of the renovation.

The fire of the cathedral in Gorzów broke out on Saturday, it was just a celebration of the city. Gorzów 2017 Days were discontinued, everybody focused on saving the cathedral. The fire and smoke appeared in the historic tower of the cathedral. The monument had been being rescued by over 100 firefighters.

 The renovation it will some more years. However, the first mass is to take place at Christmas 2019.

The cost of renovation - PLN 15 million. A half of this sum has been collected.

The faithful and residents of Gorzow will have to decide whether to allocate some of the donations to the reconstruction of Notre Dame in Paris ...
