Elements of the past of Szczecin

One of the hills of Szczecin is Warszewo. And there are many elements from the past. Not all of them have the same value and importance for the current residents.

The neighbourhood is developing dynamically and is expanding. Its huge potential is enough for many aggressive developers to come!

Warszewo (until 1945 German Warsow) - part of the city and the administrative district of Szczecin, which is an auxiliary unit of the city, part of the city located in the North area. Warszewo is located on the Warszewskie Hills at 110 m above sea level. - partly on Warsaw's Warszewskie Plateau, 85 meters higher than Downtown.

The name Warszewo derives from the old Polish name "Warsz" (identically as Warsz "Warsaw"). The oldest records in sources: 1261 - Warsowe, 1271 - Warsouu, 1335 - Warsow.

So, we have something akin to the Capital!!

On the elevation there is now the Lapidarium, which next to it hosts a playground for children. Just life itself.

Lapidarium

"The cemetery for residents of Warszewo arose here in 1870. The cemetery on the hill was enlarged in 1911. There was a chapel and a small obelisk dedicated to the residents of Warszewo, who died as soldiers during World War I. The remains of both buildings are still today."

There is one more interesting element of Szczecin's history:

Słoń

y of the inhabitants of the city of Szczecin have no idea about the existence of the Warszewo elephant. The sculpture, which adorns the square in the heart of the estate a bit distant from the center of Szczecin, is next to the storks, one of the most important symbols of Warszewo. Get to know its story!

In the historical part of the estate, between Szczecińska and Poznańska streets there is a small square with trees, alleys and several benches. In its central part stands a sculpture depicting an elephant. The statue by the German artist Kurt Schwerdtfeger was created in 1934 and was originally used as a fountain. A water spurted out of the trunk in the middle of a pond of an elephant, directed straight up."
