Evening at the Opera

Before the fourth wave of the pandemic floods us, we want to take advantage of the rich cultural offer in Szczecin.

The November weather in mid-October makes us go out the house and enjoy the evening at the opera house.

In the repertoire of the Castle Opera - Carmen by George Bizet.

Today on stage, only once this season, a soloist of the Metropolitan Opera in New York - Edyta Kulczak.

A few words from the interview with the director Ewelina Pietrowiak:

"... I wonder what really attracts viewers: whether the story of a love triangle, or intriguing Spanish scenery, or fantastic melodies known to everyone, or a great libretto - a truly moving, true love story. The reason may also be the unique heroine - one of the first opera feminists, a woman whose essence and most important life philosophy is freedom. Carmen can be a modern idol - she is brave, intelligent, honorable, true to herself, and at the same time sexy: it's really hard to imagine a more explosive cocktail! ... "

Moving the action of this opera to modern times and replacing bullfighters with a team of Spanish footballers, and the audience of the bullfighting arena - fiery football fans - has here its strong feminist and libertarian overtones.

Two characters: Carmen (Edyta Kulczak) and Don José (Dominik Sutowicz) - did a great job, and mezzo-soprano Carmen and Don José's low tenor sounded great.

The Pomeranian Dukes' Castle creates a special atmosphere, and it is nice to drink a glass of wine before the show and during the intermission.
