Villa Romana del Casale

One of the goals of staying in Piazza Armerina is an extraordinary facility:

Villa Romana del Casale - a luxurious summer villa from the late Roman Empire, residential and representative consisting of about 50 rooms, baths, gyms, offices and bedrooms arranged around a large inner courtyard.

Its owner was probably a Roman senator, if not a member of the imperial family, he certainly belonged to the highest ranks of the Roman Empire. The villa, discovered for decades, owes its fame to mosaic floor tiles. Colorful paintings cover the floors in all rooms and cover an area of over 3,500 m²."

It was probably founded in the 3rd or 4th century AC, after many years it was covered by huge landslides and only 50 years ago it was painstakingly recovered by excavation.

I am attaching some photos to give you an idea of the beauty of the mosaics that reflect the great life of the time. Probably only of some of its inhabitants.

I do not bore you anymore and invite you to take photos ... of  poor quality, because the light was not good. The photographer was prefect, though!!
