TOMMY

TOMMY
  • Title: TOMMY
  • Author: Don Tait

The many hours’ conversation with Don about life in general, and about his own in particular, led us to agree on the story which he did not want to initially make available to me to translate and entry here, and he would only let me read it.

A condition for consent to the translation was to understand the complicated soul of a man marked by the experiences of the World War, and which he perceived almost exclusively through friendship with another man.

Already during the reading I knew that not this element of the story would be a problem for both me and our readers.

It was difficult for me to recreate the atmosphere of the small towns of Australia before the war and the situational reality more than fifty years later, described in a very brief way in this literary form.

Readers may find it difficult follow the moving by the Author of his hero between two time planes. But that's what it all was about.

I wish you pleasant reading.

Not liking to pose for the photos, Don got "caught" at his car with a gesture - Well, I let you have it, my "Tommy".
