An important goal of most of our trips is to meet local people, which gives us verified knowledge about the country.
Sri Lanka, which we are currently discovering, seems fascinating, and conversations with people we meet allow us to learn many things that are not written about in guidebooks.
In Hikkaduwa, we met an artist with many talents: he paints pictures from his own inspiration, portraits to order (mainly from photos); makes decorative wedding cakes; decorates the bride and groom's "thrones"; dresses the bride in his own creations and does make-up...
The well-functioning enterprise was stopped by the Covid-19 pandemic and so far it is difficult for the artist to return to its former glory.
The photos show some of his painting works (unfortunately, the best ones are own and taken by the those who order them) and a slightly dusty warehouse of wedding decorations.

Prices in Sri Lanka are similar to Polish ones, and the average salary does not exceed US 250! It's not easy for the residents here. They mainly complain about the taxes that plague them!
