So what, just 1st May on the beach?
The day has finally arrived – rested after the rigors of travel, free from any responsibilities or need for action – we're on the beach (hidden in deep shade) and doing nothing…
A rather rare occurrence in our lives, so we're not sure whether to be happy or not.
As planned, our intensive exploration of the area will take place in the second week of our stay, so yesterday (April 30th) and today (May 1st) we're celebrating on the beach with drinks in hand.

Poles going to work?

Happy May Day!
Labor Day is also known as International Workers' Day and May Day. It's a public holiday in many countries around the world. It usually falls around May 1st, but in many countries it's also celebrated on other dates.

In Madagascar, this day is celebrated, but this doesn't apply to the employees of our hotel (and there are dozens of them here), because someone has to serve the hundreds of tourists who spend the May long weekend here.

The flag of Madagascar was adopted on October 14, 1958, two years before the country gained independence. It consists of three stripes: a vertical white and horizontal red and green. White and red were the colors used by the rulers of the island's pre-colonial Merina kingdom, conquered by France in 1896. Green is the color of the Hova, an influential peasant class that played a significant role in the struggle for independence..
There's a lot going on on the beach: high and low tides, horseback riding, a mini souvenir market, a mini art exhibition, and adorable children whom we don't photograph for obvious reasons.
A special security guard prevents locals from approaching tourists, so the children play in the sea, and the men offering their services can only talk to those walking along the shore.
