On the Baltic Sea in Latvia
Latvia is a Baltic country with a coastline of almost 500 km (Poland has 520 km, being 4.5 times larger!)We took a regional train to see for ourselves if the Latvian Baltic Sea looks the same as ours!

See, how much "Baltic" it has?
Statistical data indicates that from the beginning of June to the end of August, there are 18 sunny days in Riga and the surrounding area (57 in Szczecin respectively).
So, our chances of experiencing such a day were slim!
Surprise!
Today, a cloudless, slightly windy day was perfect for strolling through Latvia's Baltic Sea resort – Majori (a district of Jūrmala).

“Jūrmala is a city in central Latvia, 25 km west of Riga, on the Baltic Sea, a famous health resort.
Majori is the most representative and vibrant district and the historic center of Jūrmala – the most popular seaside resort in Latvia, located just 25 km from Riga. It serves as the main heart of the entire city, attracting tourists with its historic architecture and wide beaches.
Majori attractions include:
- Jomas Street (Jūrmala iela): The main, representative pedestrian street in Jūrmala, lined with numerous cafes, restaurants, shops, and hotels.

- Historic wooden architecture: Majori is famous for its beautiful, richly decorated wooden villas in the spa and Art Nouveau styles, which were built on the The turn of the 20th century.

- Majori Beach and the Turtle Monument: A wide, sandy beach awarded the Blue Flag. Right at the entrance (from Tirgoņu Street) is a popular tourist monument.”

Majori is somewhat reminiscent of Międzyzdroje, but is definitely more family-friendly. Prices are slightly less favorable…
We confirm that the Baltic Sea in Latvia is the same as in Poland, but the beach in Majori – a smaller resort than Międzyzdroje – is wider and much longer.
There also is an excellent, flat wooden walkway along the dunes, allowing for a leisurely stroll without getting your feet wet and enjoying the sea and the beachgoers...
