Brooklyn - one of 5 NYC boroughs

There are five boroughs in New York. 1. Manhattan 2. Brooklyn 3. Queens 4. The Bronx 5. Staten Island. Each has a lot to offer to its residents nd tourists. During a one-week visit it is impossible to visit all of them. We make choices.

There are many reasons to go to Brooklyn. Walking over the Brooklyn Bridge linking the borough with Manhattan is an experience for itself. (Information at Wikipedia: Brooklyn Bridge. Ibid its history and importance to the city).

Brooklyn Promenade and Brooklyn Bridge Park are the places to be seen twice;  in the day time and at night. Both areas are recreation areas for the residents and provide the tourists with a unique experience overlooking Lower Manhattan.

Brooklyn, a historically close to the heart of Poles borough, with over 2.5 million residents, is not ethnically homogeneous. Its parts clearly separate from each other with the wealth of the inhabitants, or their ethnicity. For example, Borough Park resides the Jewish community, Bedford-Stuyvesant – the African American, Bensonhurst – the Italian-Americans, Greenpoint – the Polish, and Sunset Park - the Hispanic.

Greenpoint is increasingly changing its face becoming less and less Polish. A number of wealthy Americans who buy   elegant apartments, is growing. Most of the Polish cannot afford to buy those apartments.  So they are moving now to the borough of Queens. For the owners of Polish businesses follow their customers. It is there that now Polish shops and restaurants open. Some of them remain in Greenpoint, though, and adapt to the new conditions.

Contrary to the pessimistic voices, there is no fear that in a few years, at the most northerly part of Brooklyn you will not hear the Polish language. Although Greenpoint lost its importance in the eyes of our immigrants, still remains an attractive place for Poles starting their adventure in America.

The greater part of Brooklyn is a residential area. Brooklyn is also the first place to stay for the majority of immigrants who direct their steps to New York.
