In the vicinity of Union Sqare

Not far from Union Square, the Madison Square Park is located (not to be confused with the Madison Square Garden, with a large sports hall, where famous boxers fight mercilessly for big money).

The park is a very nice place for lunch and a moment for a breath from work.

Apparently, the best burgers, hot-dogs and shakes "are served" in the Shake Shack stand right in the park. A very long queue for those goodies surprised us, but even the prices were not particularly low. It must be fashionable, right?

On the way from Union Square to Madison Square Park, since 1902 there has proudly stood one of the buildings - icons of New York – the Flatiron. The skyscraper got such a nickname because of its looks which was forced by a narrow, triangular lot at the intersection of Broadway, 23rd  and Fifth Avenue.

A little further on, there is another peculiarity of downtown Manhattan – the Gramercy Park.

The Gramercy Park is the name of both a small private park with a decorative fence  and the area around it. The 1 ha park is located in the historic district and is the only private park in New York. Only the local rich people who pay an annual fee, may have the key to it. A so-called general public can afford jogging, strolling, and dog-walking around the park, along the fence.

The key to the park used to cost $ 10 per year initially, now is amounts up to of 400, and $ 1,000 is charged when it is lost.

It is easy to guess how much the surrounding apartments cost. Julia Roberts owns here only a small penthouse.
