Episode 57

Taming the Life. My Talks with Adrian

Episode 57

Talk fifty six.

New York, 13thApril

- On Fifth Avenue[3] in Manhattan you can find and see everything! Well, almost everything. Which part did you like the most?

- In Manhattan, I like everything. But that's not the beauty of the city I'm talking about, but the atmosphere. And it is absolutely unique here.

- I know, I know. The Apple Store is the most important!

- Do not make me such an ignorant! On Fifth Avenue there’s a living history of New York City!

- And that Fifth Avenue took us down Manhattan to 27th street to ...

- To the museum of…

- Go ahead. Finish it off, don’t be afraid!

- …of sex[4].

- I wonder what we were expecting there.

- History of human sexuality.

- And what did we find?

- Everything. And the information about sexual behaviour of various animals. All animals.

- What surprised you?

- I don’t know whether I was surprised. I learned that sexuality of all species is subject to the same rules.

- ???

- For example, the fact that homosexuality and other non-standard sexual experiences were found in all animal species. Not only in mammals!

- What does this tell us?

- It doesn’t tell anything new for me. But for many people who express their opinions ignorantly and authoritatively on these issues, a visit to this museum should be mandatory.

- It may not be necessary to take the trouble of travelling to New York, it may be simply enough to read relevant literature...

- Reading can be difficult. Images, photos, museum exhibits and descriptions, I think, can better talk to the senses.

- Might it be the reason why the museum came into being?

- We never learned this.

- But we learned that the sex museum was founded by a former painter Daniel Gluck and opened on October 5, 2002 and, as such, had no precedent in the world at the time.

- And that the museum collection included more than 15000 exhibits: works of art, photography, clothing, technological inventions and historical records.

- And now it's time to confirm American hypocrisy.

- American does not mean New York.

- Apparently not, but listen:

„New York authorities initially opposed the creation of the museum, and agreed on condition that the minimum distance separating the museum from the most proximal church or school will be 500 feet (about 160 meters). The idea of a museum was met with condemnation from the American Catholic organization Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights”.

Nothing more, nothing less.

- I did not know that the influence of, "the plague" can be measured in meters!
