Time for the theatres

We went to Nowy Teatr run by Krzysztof Warlikowski with high expectations and we were not disappointed!

The five-hour performance (!) proved that the director and his experienced team of artists have a lot to say about today's Warsaw (Poland?) from the perspective of the past.

Cielecka, Dałkowska, Popławska (Aleksandra). Stuhr (Maciej), Chyra. Poniedziałek and others are really great actors and faithful students of master Warlikowski:

Krzysztof Warlikowski - Nowy Teatr

Krzysztof Warlikowski's performance is inspired by John van Druten's text I'm a Camera and John Cameron Mitchell's film Shortbus.

Two distant realities: Germany during the Weimar Republic, in which power is gradually taken over by fascists, and New York after 9/11 are almost laboratory space-times, where historical conditions trigger the most hidden and repressed fears, sexual and erotic phobias and failures, causing huge tensions and leading to many crises. Today's Warsaw sees itself in these two worlds.

(…)

Kabaret Warszawski is a Nowy Teatr team that confronts many scenarios of oppression. The performance portrays a group of artists for whom art is the main sense of their activity. But art does not repay you. On the contrary, it loses the artists who devote themselves to it, making life possible at the same time making it impossible by poisoning it with doubts. By creating a space for therapy and releasing fears and taboos, Warlikowski also shows the threats and oppression that automatically arise around such enclaves.
