Taming the Life. My Talks with Adrian

Episode 09

Talk eight.

Bangkok, 27th November

- Has Seth come yet?

- I wouldn’t know, he’s not around. But seriously, since he’d promised to store our excessive luggage which we won’t need for the coming two weeks in Malaysia and Myanmar, he should be coming in shortly.

- I wonder why we clung to us so much. He’s losing his time with us.

- Why don’t you ask him about it. I have no doubts on the matter.

- My fault again?

- It’s no fault of yours, but after what you’d done for him, I’m not surprised that he set high standards for his future and potential partner.

- I know, he’d like to be with a tall European or possibly Australian man who wouldn’t behave as the majority of the Asians would.

- So?

- He’s looking for someone who would be coming to Thailand just for him and eventually would settle down here for good or would take him somewhere in the world with him.

- I don’t think, Seth who is so attached to his numerous family would like to leave Thailand for good.

- Anyway, he needs an honest man! He finds no confidence in the Asians. And, actually, what had I done to him?

- Not to him, for him.

- A year ago, on New Year’s Day?

- Exactly. It was when we went to theBalcony for an additional party after the New Years’ Eve fun.

- After we’d had three drinks each, I warned him that he should stop right away because you and I were big guys and we were able to drink more in comparison with him, a tiny man, unaccustomed to heavy drinking.

- But he didn’t stop. I noticed that he wasn’t coming back from the men’s room for a suspiciously long time.

- I followed him to see what was going on.

- It may have been half an hour later when I started worrying, went there and saw you holding, folded in halves, slipping from your hands, our small Set who…

- …was throwing up all he could.

- If it hadn’t been you, it might have been bad.

- True. It didn’t look too good. I couldn’t bring him to contact. He appeared unconscious. Someone said we that we took him to hospital. The waiters who would drop in and out, advised that we left him alone, that he would be fine.

- Just like that? On the toilet floor?

- What else could they’ve had in mind?

- Someone suggested that we called an ambulance.

- Someone else did. They showed up quite promptly. Some paramedic examined him, properly diagnosed with alcohol overdose, and gave him something to swallow, which Seth immediately threw up.

- And I got a box of tablets for which I had to pay.

- When we came back to our table, Seth was conscious but kept his eyes closed and didn’t respond to any questions.

- So we decided to take him home in a taxi.

- Easy to say, harder to do. Where to? We didn’t know his home address.

- We managed, with difficulties, though, to talk a tuk-tuk drive into taking us on, promising him a generous tip.

- I don’t remember who went through Seth’s pockets and found his wallet with an ID (?), illegible for us.

- The driver found there some address which he read aloud. This revived Seth who mumbled something what only the driver was able to understand, and announced that we’d be heading for a still different address.

- It was a great ride along almost empty streets of Bangkok. The tuk-tuk accelerated to some speed quite well and the fresh air must’ve helped Seth who opened his eyes. I liked the ride.

- I liked it much less. I was angry with Seth for having spoiled our evening. I was worried about his health, and what’s more, I didn’t feel save in that speeding vehicle.

- Everything ended well, though.

- Mainly with Seth’s two-day major hangover and his lifelong gratitude for you for having saved his life.

- Do not exaggerate.

- There’s no exaggeration there. You took such a good care of him as very few guys would do in your place.

- You supported me.

- Oh! Seth! There he is!

- Time to get ready.

- In a couple of hours we are flying off to Krabi.

- Is it true that the region of Krabi is one of the most picturesque places in Thailand?

- It’s said to be the most picturesque one. The region distinguishes itself with limestone massifs joined with the emerald sea, which can delight just anybody. Ask Seth more about it. There’s a two-hour flight in front of us.
