Episode 02 Shall we?

Taming the Life. My Talks with Adrian

Episode 02 Shall we?

Talk One. Do you really...?

Szczecin, 20th July

- Are you sure, you want us to travel for as long as five months?

- Do I want to? I do. And do you?

- I do, too. But does is make sense?

- What else can make sense? We are going because everything’s got arranged, so now it is the best time. We might not have a better opportunity.

- Do we have to take up such an opportunity?

- Yes, we do.

- You’ve been everywhere, though.

- No, not everywhere. Besides, I’d been travelling alone or with people I hadn’t chosen myself. Now I want to see some new places and I want to see the ones I have already seen to see again. With you.

- If you insist.

- You don’t want to go?

- I don’t have to. But I could.

- Don’t try to be nice.

- It’s not that. I can live without travelling. So far I’ve had other needs and priorities. It was you who tempted me having shown me some of the world. I might have liked it.

- That’s why we are going again. I find it important that during our previous trips not only did we visit a dozen of countries but also we met and got to know many people. We’ve been in touch with many of them up to now, and we made friends with them. And this is the best feedback of what we have been doing, I think.

- It’s you who needs them first of all. The people, I mean.

- We both need them. I’m deeply convinced that planning our round the world trip we are making right assumptions that we are going to meet the people, not to see the places.

- Whom exactly?

- Whom do you want?

- Are they going to be either our or your friends or your family?

- Not only them, I think. Besides, you think that I don’t know that the hours you keep spending at the computer do not necessarily are for reading the world’s news.

- Get off me, will you?

- Well... We do talk about those you chat, talk on the skype or exchange e-mails with. By the way, what awful language expressions they are. Taken right from English. Can’t we afford to create our own, Polish equivalents? Anyway, let’s make use of that ability of yours during our trip.

- If you are annoyed with those „awful language expressions”, as you put it, why don’t you invent Polish words for them? Back to the subject. What ability is that?

- Well, myself I can’t communicate with people that way. I don’t know how to „fuck about anything”, as you put it. I know, “they” expect that. And your English is just perfect for that type of communication.

- Again another allusion.

- You think that so called language correctness is not expected there, so you are comfortable writing as you wish.

- This way or not at all.

- Don’t take offence. I do not interfere in that. I want you to make a selection and choose the people for our meetings, you find worth doing so.

- Any criteria?

- Later on about that. Let those who are reading this now think that we have sex in mind.

- And do we?

- You and your way again! Don’t blame me for everything. Let the answer to this one and similar other questions come up later on. Much later on. We have to keep our readers in suspense. We owe them something, don’t we?
